Sheep, Goats and other introduced Spirits
Brett a'Court
Brett is a well established Northland artist. He has exhibited in multiple group shows at Hangar Gallery over the years including The Crucifixion Show, various Miniature Shows and the reopening exhibition at Cross St. Brett’s work is multi layered with collage and paint. He draws on religious iconography for inspiration.
‘This body of work connects mythology and biblical symbols of certain introduced animals of Aotearoa to my Pakeha christian identity. Within this is my intention to pierce the veil of this world to the next. Heavily influenced by the tradition of Vanitas, the paintings aim to show the transience of life, narratives of the afterlife, superstitions and even salvation.’
