Hangar Gallery to host Chris Wilkie exhibition

In November 2019 Hangar Gallery will host a solo show of paintings and drawings by well known artist Chris T Wilkie. Titled Endeavour – Finding and Losing, the strange realities of James Cook. The exhibition will consist of artwork referencing Tuia 250, the anniversary of Captain James Cook’s landing in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Many of the works are portraits and Chris has portrayed James Cook not in the classic poses we are accustomed to, but as a human with frailty and faults. The viewer may decide if he was an aggressor or nobleman.

Chris has had several solo exhibitions at Hangar Gallery over the years and has exhibited widely throughout New Zealand. He is a celebrated muralist, lithographer and environmentalist and we look forward to this new body of work. Chris will give an artists talk to discuss the exhibition at 10am on Saturday 7th December, at Hangar Art and Framing, 14 Cross St, Regent, Whangarei, all welcome.
